Volvo began
manufacturing passenger cars in Goteborg, Sweden in 1927. In 1955 the company
entered the U.S. market. Volvo's first sports car was the P1800, unveiled in
1960. By 1980 over one million vehicles had been exported to the United
States. The company was founded on tenets of quality and safety which were of
extreme importance, a concept that applies to Volvo cars of today. Volvo is
part of Ford's Premier Automotive Group, which includes Aston Martin, Land
Rover and Jaguar.
