The Ford Motor
Company introduced the German-built Merkur nameplate to the U.S. in 1985.
Targeted at customers looking for sporting cars with a distinctly European
feel, two Merkur model lines were sold through select Lincoln-Mercury dealers
until 1989. Throughout Europe and the rest of the world, these Merkur models
were sold as Ford products.
