The Chrysler
Corporation introduced the Plymouth brand in 1927. In 1959 one of the world's
first compact cars was introduced, the Plymouth Valiant. In 1998 the Chrysler
Corporation merged with Daimler-Benz AG to form DaimlerChrysler AG, the
fifth-largest automaker in the world, making Plymouth a division of
DaimlerChrysler AG. As DaimlerChrysler’s value-oriented nameplate,
Plymouth automobiles are now sold exclusively alongside the Chrysler brand
through Chrysler-Plymouth dealerships.
