General Motors
introduced the Geo nameplate in 1989 as a high-value American alternative to
imported passenger cars and sport utilities. Sold through Chevrolet-Geo
dealerships, Geo vehicles were unique—all models shared a platform with other
manufacturers. Nineteen ninety-seven was the last year Geo automobiles were
sold as a distinct brand. From 1998 on, all models previously marketed under
the Geo name now fall under the Chevrolet nameplate.
